What is a Medicare Supplement Plan?

A Medicare Supplement Plan, also known as Medigap, is a type of health insurance policy that is sold by private insurance companies. It generally will help fill in the gaps of coverage left by Original Medicare. Original Medicare, which consists of Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), covers many healthcare services and expenses, But it does not cover everything.

Out of Pocket Costs

Medicare Supplement Plans are designed to help pay for the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare does not cover.  These expenses generally include such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. These plans may also offer additional benefits, such as coverage for medical services generally received outside of the United States.
It’s important to note that generally Medicare Supplement Plans can only be purchased by individuals who have Original Medicare. They generally cannot be used in conjunction with Medicare Advantage Plans.
